Neuro Athletic Training:
when the brain leads the workout
The link between the nervous system, movement, and wellbeing
What if it is not the muscles that determine how we move, but the brain itself? This is the idea at the heart of Neuro Athletic Training. In the early 2000s, US athletic coach Dr Eric Cobb began applying findings from neuroscience to traditional performance training. His “Z-Health” system laid the groundwork for this approach.
In the German-speaking world, sports scientist Lars Lienhard helped shape and popularise the concept. In 2014, he became the first Neuro Athletic Coach to accompany the German national football team to a FIFA World Cup. Since then, the approach has increasingly been adopted in wellness and health settings – for those looking to better understand their body and move with greater ease and awareness.
